K-087AW: Day 5: Being a Mother

Day 5 of Kelly-087 Appreciation Week is here. And I’ve done a theme in Honor of Mother’s day.

Kelly-087 Looked out in the small Military camp where she and John were stationed at the moment. Today the camp was holding a visitation day, where family members could visit the solders stationed there.

Her focused were at the women solders who were bombarded with hugs from their significant others, and by their children, from toddlers and middle school kids to teens and fully grown children. Seen them receive love from their family gave Kelly a feeling of loneliness and want. Her family were several people she grew up and fought with in training, and she had lost many of them to the wars. Sure she had John, Fred and Linda…but there was something missing.

“Something Wrong?” a voice asked, she turned and saw John-117 appearing behind her, “You seem distant.”

“It’s…it’s nothing” Kelly said as she turned back to the activity in the camp.

“Doesn’t sound like nothing” John said. “Don’t keep something from me…I want to help.”

Kelly sighed “Can we go inside?”

John looked at her, he could tell this was something private, he nods and leads her in their quarters.

Kelly looked at the wall and sighed, “You’re gonna think I’m crazy, John.”

“Don’t assume that, Kelly.” He replied, “Whatever you need to say, I’ll understand.”

“I don’t think you’ll understand this” she retorted.

“Come on, Kelly…you can tell me.”

Kelly stayed quiet for a moment, then she turned back to him. “John…what will we leave behind?”

“What do you mean?” John asked

“We’re Spartans. Humanity is gonna know about our exploits for generations” Kelly explained, “But what will we leave behind personally? Who will carry on our legacy?”

“Well…the IVs aren’t like the IIs, but they-“

“No, I’m not talking about being Spartans.” Kelly Interrupted, “I’m talking about being people, who will carry on our memories…our times together…our hearts?”

John looked at her, now looking confused, Kelly gave another sigh as she decided to let the shoe drop. “John…I want to be a Mother.”

This made his eyes widened, “You…want to have a baby?” he wanted to clarify.

“Not just a baby…I want my baby…I want to raise a child, tell him or her stories about us…I want to start a family John.” Kelly said, “and…I want you to be the husband and father.”

John looked at her in surprise “why?”

“Why I want a baby or why I want you to be the husband and father?” She asked

“I think I know the answer to the latter” John said with a smirk, “But Kelly, how can we raise a child? We’re both in the military, and I don’t think they want us to leave any time soon.”

“John, I know it’s not going to be easy…it might not even be possible” Kelly said as she took a seat on the bed, “I mean…sure Maria-062 was able to have kids, but what if she was the only acceptation?”

“This is really important to you, isn’t it?” John asked as he sat next to her

“…We’re getting older, John” Kelly continued, “And seeing those solders out there…its making realize that, more than anything…I want to leave a legacy. Not just war stories in a history book written by people who think we’re soulless robots. I want a child to grow up knowing who we are as people, to know that we can love and give love…to give our love to something we created, I-”

John places a finger on Kelly’s lips, silencing her, “I understand. I think I truly do” he then pulls her into a hug, “you’re right, Kelly…it won’t be easy. But I’m going to do my best to make it possible” he looks at her “I Promise.”

Kelly had light tears in her eyes, she hugs John again, “Thank you John…”

John smiled, “So…I don’t suppose you have an idea for a name already picked out, do you?”

Kelly blushed “I do actually. if its a boy…I was thinking…Samuel.”

John looked at her curiously, but smiled, “Funny…I was thinking the same thing” he pulls her closer.

They stayed in their hug for some time. They had no idea the obstacles they would get into, but John knew this: Kelly would make a great mother.
